Onkyo HT-S6500 Network A/V Receiver Review

Onkyo HT-S6500 7.1 Channel Theater System comes with 4 HDMI inputs and 1 output, with HDMI Support for 3D, Audio Return Channel, Deep Color, Lip-sync, Advanced Music Optimizer for compressed digital music files,On-Screen Display (OSD) via HDMI and many more. Recently I have purchased this AV receiver for my home theater system.

I really have a pretty basic setup. I have my machine connected with an HDMI Cable to the sound framework, then I have HDMI link from the sound framework to the television. Through this I can play Blu-rays since my machine can, and I have a library of motion pictures . I utilize HDMI in light of the fact that I read that it conveys the best nature of sound and picture. I have a system that permits me to utilize my iPod or telephone as a remote control and a ton of different things, yet I won’t get into that as it’s not as identified with the sound system.

This Onkyo HT-S6500 AV receiver sounds extraordinary with DVDs, Blu-rays, music, and videogames. I viewed several movies on Blu-ray and the sound totally cleared me out. Indeed, the smallest motion picture commotion delivers the goods fresh and clear. What’s more at less than half the max volume, my floor was now thundering. I likewise tried it on an old top choice, Firefly, and it felt like an entire new experience. I don’t think there is motivation to use more cash on a more costly framework unless you truly can catch the contrast.

Pros

Onkyo HT-S6500 allows every user to experience a much revitalized home theater in a box (HTiB), with its multitude of wireless audio and internet connectivity, seamless control and streaming, overlaid on-screen display (OSD) for quick changing of settings, and Instaprevue visual port management for easy input source selection.

It is great to note that this receiver produces a thumping bass and crisp sound, thanks to its Audyssey Dynamic EQ which maintains a balanced and consistent bass response as well as surround sound effects letting users enjoy the natural dynamics of this device at different volume levels. Although it does not have full range harmony system, the ability to produce higher output and better sound is made possible by upgrading the speakers.

So far, it is a brand name you can trust when it comes to outstanding sound quality. The Wide Range Amp Technology (WRAT) and discreet amplifier design guarantee a stable performance of dynamic soundtracks. At the same time, it minimizes the noise across the frequency levels and improves the reliability of amplified audio. That is why, if you link up this receiver with a good quality Onkyo speaker, it can deliver a clear and seamless audio reproduction.

In addition, this Home Theater in a box system has a lot to offer from its HDMI connections to radio and music streaming. In fact, many earlier users were amazed by its advanced HDMI inputs and output control that works perfectly with their cable box, PS3 and MP3s. Music sounds clearer and clearer as the digital signal of the audio is transported through a direct digital connection. Plus, they can press any button they want to select on the receiver in order to change the pictures and sound at once.

Cons

Despite its numerous attractive features of the Onkyo HT-S6500, there are some not so satisfied buyers who had some issues with the product. While the streaming stuff is pretty cool, the deal-breaker issue is the horrible buzzing sound which hums after setting up and using the Dynamic EQ feature of the system. Some users also heard humming sounds from the subwoofer. Nevertheless, it sounded well when worked. Normally, Onkyo’s equipment really works great, but it seems that there is a need to make some recall on this item with regard to this issue.

Having a lot of inputs may be the best feature offered by Onkyo, however, it manifests one drawback – it is hidden in the menus. Users may be stunned knowing that this product has a brilliant ability to make them see whether a DVD or cable box is playing on each of the active inputs; yet there is no button available to activate it or to cycle through the HDMI active inputs. If you have a component, you may not know where to switch them, unless you have all the HDMI inputs. Generally, HDMI 1-4 inputs are pre-assigned, while HDMI 5 & 6 are not accessible until you check the menus and assign each of them to one of the buttons you found on the remote.

Last point, it is good to know that this product offers support to remote apps for iPod/iPhone and Android devices. The weird thing though, once you connect your iPod to the USB port, it does not allow you to select songs from the iPod, rather you have to use the remote control. However, this issue may not be a big deal to worry about if your main goal is to get a system with great surround sound quality.

The verdict

The feature front of the new HT-S6500 Home Theater in a Box is top quality. While the integrated Audyssey calibration is a little outdated, other features and offerings are very attractive such as its 4k video upscaling, HTiB Zone 2 solution, fully packed streaming features, InstaPrevue technology and 7 HMDI active inputs. Plus, HT-S6500 comes in at just a little cheaper at $599.99. Some issues can be considered isolated cases as they are outnumbered by the users who affirmed about the great sound quality of the system. Perhaps, asking the seller for a replacement of the product may help, in order to check out if indeed the product really works well.
